PART TWO
CHAPTER TEN
Friday, January 31st 2014
LENNOX WAS STILL WITH DR. STEVENS, SITTING across from him and staring out the window at the snow that as falling softly from the sky. She could feel his eyes on her, watching her, studying her, trying to figure out what was going on in her mind. She hadn’t been seeing him long, but it was long enough to know that when he looked at her with his head slightly tilted to the side and his mouth in a straight line that was neither happy nor mad, she knew he was waiting for her to continue while also giving her a moment.
“You know,” she finally said, her eyes still watching the snow. “When I was little, I used to love when the snowflakes were huge and fluffy looking. Then as I got older I started to hate the snow, I still do, but not those fluffy flakes,” she tilted her head to the side, her eyes slightly narrowed, “the perfect Christmas would be no snow until Christmas eve and not too cold or warm, maybe around minus fifteen, minus twenty, and large fluffy flakes falling and covering the ground all Christmas eve day and all Christmas day. Perfect.”
“Lennox,” Dr. Stevens said.
She glanced over at him and said, “Sorry, what did you ask me?”
He glanced down at the folder in his lap. “I asked how your pregnancy went over with everyone,” he said, looking over at her as he reached for his Office mug.
“Everyone reacted differently,” she said crossing her legs and shoving her hands into her front pocket.
“Different how?”
“Well I’ve told you how my parents are compared to his, so I’m sure you can put two and two together.” He looked at her pointedly, his brows arched, then took a sip from his mug. She sighed. “Sorry,” she said.
“It’s okay, I know this is hard for you, but we’ve only got,” he looked down at his watch, “another twenty minutes before our session ends.”
She nodded in understanding. “My parents weren’t really surprised. When we told them a couple days later, my mom claimed to have already known, said she could tell just by looking at me, and my dad well he and Caleb celebrated with a bottle of Jose. His parents on the other hand… they were shocked, they were shocked about it all and whether they supported it or where happy about it, I’ll never really know. I’ve never asked them, they came to the wedding and then left, thanking us for inviting them—as if we weren’t going to invite them.”
“Were they not involved very much?”
“No, not really. Caleb and I fought about it a lot actually, we were getting married and having a baby, it was a lot to deal with. We almost got married that October instead of waiting ‘til August, but we decided against it and waited until after our son was born.”
“What did you guys fight about? His parents?”
“Mostly. I can’t remember what happened, but I remember this one night
